Rite Way Fencing, founded in 1912, initially specialized in general wire goods. In 1917, Ernest Lake acquired the company, and it remained under the Lake family’s ownership until 1978 when the Wiebeck family took over. The company evolved from manufacturing wire products to focusing on wire mesh in the 1960s, later expanding into perforated metals and design-patterned expanded metal. Investments in advanced equipment enhanced its capabilities. Today, Rite Way Fencing + Design Metals stocks one of Canada’s largest selections of wire mesh, offers custom weaving and fabrication, and continues to grow its range of architectural and design products through a global supply network.

Our history

Originally Rite Way Fencing was a general wire goods manufacturer founded in 1912 by A. E. Rite Way Fencing. In 1917, Ernest Lake bought the company for $1,000.00, and decided to keep its name. The Lake family owned and ran Rite Way Fencing until 1978, when the Wiebeck family purchased the business and keeps on running it to this day.

In its beginning stages, Rite Way Fencing primarily manufactured wire goods such as: baskets, guards, safety stretchers, strainers and so on – all with a workforce of about a dozen men. In the 1960’s Rite Way Fencing started weaving and welding wire mesh. This production was complemented by the import, distribution and warehousing of other wire mesh items. These factors lead to the gradual shift from wire products to wire mesh. Later, perforated metals, both with round holes and design patterns and design expanded metal rounded out the product line.

Over the years, investment in equipment (flattening rollers and slitter to process the mesh, various welding equipment, specialized fabricating shears, brakes, rollers, and more) have expanded the capabilities of Rite Way Fencing.

Today Rite Way Fencing + Design Metals stocks one of the widest varieties of wire mesh in Canada – with the ability to offer custom weaving, fabrication and worldwide sourcing. Rite Way Fencing + Design Metals also offers a growing range of architectural and design products.

Facility / Inventory

Rite Way Fencing + Design Metals is housed in a 10,000 square foot building in the old stockyards district of Toronto. The building is divided up into 2,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 7,500 square feet dedicated to inventory. We stock over 230 different items at all times, some of which include: mesh made from aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, galvanized, mild steel and stainless steel wires as well as a selection of perforated metal, Ampliato (expanded) and Textura (patterned) metal. In addition to our inventory, Rite Way Fencing + Design Metals has the ability to custom fabricate certain specialty products.
